I LOVE YOU DADDY
by Jade Wymes
He was there when I was born,
He was there when mommy wasn’t at times,
You filled my body with the beautiful notes from your keyboard,
You use to pick me up and throw me real high
I was never scared;
I knew you would always catch me.
I love you daddy,
Even though you and mommy aren’t happy
And uncle passed away
When the drugs set in you no longer wanted to play
You broke things
And when they shatter
I screamed.
I love you daddy
You cheated daddy
Why did you bring that lady into our home
When mommy was at work ,
So young, so confused
I told mommy what I knew
Now me and mommy have to move.
I love you daddy
You said you would come see me
I waited on that street
I cried till I couldn’t stop
But I ran out of tears.
Mommy even tried to pay you to come
But I guess the drugs were just too strong.
I love you daddy
Mommy is sick and you’re still not here
She can’t open her eyes
I had to grow up way too fast
I’m a mommy to my little brother and a mother to my own,
Now you want back into my life
But I’m not your little girl any more
