Beck Weathers was a climber on Everest who lost his eyesight at 28,000 feet. This loss was due to a recent operation on this eyes. To get down from Everest, Weathers had to be short-roped, or guided down. Mr. Wilson’s Language and Literature Honors students are reading Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. He invited the students to reenact Weather’s experience. How did they do this? One student was the leader and held a rope which the rest of the class held on to as the leader guided the class to the library. All students, including the leader, had to keep their eyes closes to experience being blind. The students had to take the “long” way, through the connector hall. All classes had fun laughing as they walked into walls and lockers. Everyone made it to the library with both hands, and all their fingers. A better outcome than the one Beck Weathers received.
Stay tuned. More photos to be added soon.
